Red Wings double up Beavers in Elliot Lake - ElliotLakeToday.com

The Elliot Lake Red Wings kicked off their home-and-home weekend NOJHL series against Blind River Beavers, with a 6-3 Friday night win at Centennial Arena. 

The Beavers got off to a quick start when forward Evan Fraccaro popped the puck into the Red Wings net, at 6:48 of the first.

Beavers defenceman Ethan Pegg got his fifth of season less than one minute later, on the power play.

The Red Wings got on the scoreboard at 16:46 when forward Jovani Moses came through with his eighth season marker, on the power play. 

He got helpers from Cameron Dial and Aidan Leblanc.

Pegg came through with the Beavers' third goal at 1:45 of the second. He was helped by Hayden Webster and Fraccaro.

Forward Kaden Laverdiere got the Red Wings on the scoreboard again at 5:55 of the middle stanza, scoring unassisted.

Moses netted the tying goal for the Red Wings, potting his second of the night at 11:30, of the second, also unassisted.

Aidan Leblanc did his part at 12:26, scoring another Elliot Lake goal, which pushed the home team ahead 4-3. He was assisted by Brodie Kearns.

In the third, it was all Elliot Lake.

Alex Antoine scored his eighth goal of the season at 4:28.

Parker Banks got his first goal of the season at 19:26 of the final, on an empty Blind River net, to round out the scoring.

Standing between the pipes for the Beavers, the losing goalie was Gavin Disano, who turned aside 34 of the 39 Red Wings shots that came his way.

Cameron Smith took the win for the Red Wings and had to work hard for it, after stopping 42 of the 45 Beavers shots.

Other Friday night play saw French River Rapids top Timmins Rock 4-3.

Soo Thunderbirds blanked Espanola Express 3-0.

Next up, the Red Wings play the Beavers in Blind River Saturday night at 7 p.m.
