WATFORD — Investigators probing the death of a Markham couple in a “targeted attack” found the remains of one of them in a Lambton County landfill, York Regional police said Friday.

The remains of the other are believed to be buried in the Twin Creeks Landfill and Environmental Centre in Watford, police said, as they continue to search for Phuong Tan (Mike) Nguyen, 35, of Toronto, who’s wanted on two counts of first-degree murder.
Quoc Tran, 37, and Kristy Nguyen, 25, of Markham, were victims of foul play and killed in a targeted attack at 111 Zenway Blvd. in Vaughan, where they were last seen about 5:30 p.m. Sept. 18, police said.
A Vaughan man was arrested Wednesday after investigators released photos of a vehicle believed to be connected to the homicides. Recaldo Liburd, 36, is charged with two counts of being an accessory after the fact of murder, police said.
Phuong Tan (Mike) Nguyen is considered “armed and dangerous,” police said.

Anyone who sees him should not approach him and call 9-1-1 immediately, police said.
Tran and Kristy Nguyen owned the Ultra Garden Supply business at 111 Zenway Blvd.



A York Regional police spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
A Lambton OPP spokesperson said he had “no details” about the investigation.
A Waste Management spokesperson did not immediately respond to a voicemail asking for more information.
Police could not be seen searching the landfill Friday from the entrance to the facility.
