New cases of COVID-19 have doubled in the past week, and nearly quadrupled in the past two weeks.
Today’s seven-day rolling average of new cases is 196, up from 99 a week ago and 53 two weeks ago. Health authorities reported 742 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday, two of which are epidemiologically linked. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 150,631 cases.
Active cases are also up significantly, with 1,544 reported today—double last week’s count of 783. Of the active cases reported today, 53 people are hospitalized and 19 of those people are in intensive care.
Of the new cases, 115 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 165 in the Fraser Health region, 42 in the Island Health region, 395 in the Interior Health region, 24 in the Northern Health region and one new case of a person who resides outside of Canada.
To date, 6,902,320 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 3,121,311 of those are second doses.
This means that 82.3 per cent of adults and 81.4 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 69.7 per cent of adults and 67.3 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received two doses.
Sadly, there was one new virus-related death reported since Friday, bringing that total to 1,772.
